Local Offer Live Week 2022

We ran running events throughout the week commencing on the 10 October 2022. The events are online and will have a range of speakers and interactive sessions on various topics including neurodevelopmental pathway update, Graduated Response Tool, SENDIAS, SEND supporters, school transport plus lots more. Videos are available following the sessions for those who couldn’t attend – see the playlist here which updates when new videos are added

Monday 10 October

9.30am to 10.15am: Introduction to the local offer

Join us for an information session to learn more about Somerset’s New Local Offer website.

10.30am to 11.15am: Children and young people’s Neurodevelopmental pathway update

A member of the Children and Young People’s Neurodevelopment Pathway Team will be talking about the pathway, how to access this and also to give updates on this service.

11.30 to 12.15pm: Discovery Supported Employment

Discovery supports autistic people and people with learning disabilities, throughout Somerset. We are driven by our values of ambition, courage, integrity, partnership and respect to provide exemplary care. We help people choose how they would like to live their life and provide training and support to help them find employment. This session will explain more about what Discovery do and how your can access their support.

12.30pm to 1.15pm: Young Somerset Targeted support

Young Somerset is the largest youth work charity in Somerset and their mission is to put young people first. Their aim is to work with young people, encouraging them to take responsibility for themselves and become actively involved in shaping the communities in which they live. At Young Somerset they seek to develop a youth work relationship that is open, honest, respectful, trusting and led by the young person. This session will explain more about this service and how you can access it.

1.45pm to 2.30pm: Hearing support team

The Hearing Support Team is part of the SPOT (Sensory, Physical and Occupational Therapy) service, SEND and Inclusion support, Somerset. The Hearing Support Team works with children and young people (CYP) from birth up to 25 years old (post 16 CYP will receive support in an educational setting only with EHCP). Join us for a session to learn more about the support the team can give. 

Tuesday 11 October

9.30am to 10.15am: CAOT

Rosie introduces the work of the Children’s Autism Outreach Team (CAOT) supporting parents of children with an autism diagnosis. The team help with understanding a child’s situation; supporting and empowering to provide strategies where needed and increase their social opportunities.

11.30am to 12.15am: CIA Team what they can offer to local families

Emma introduces the Community Inclusion and Activities Team (CIA Team) and the support, information and guidance available. The grant funding process for providers to deliver inclusive activities, and activity day passes and the discount MAX Card.

12.30pm to 1.15pm: ASK program (Apprenticeships and Traineeships)

Meet our two Apprenticeship and Skills Advisers to find out about traineeships, apprenticeships and how Skill Up Somerset can help. Skill Up Somerset is a free and impartial advisory service, helping individuals and businesses navigate the skills landscape across Somerset.

1.45pm to 2.30pm: SENDIAS Post 16

Somerset SENDIAS provides information, advice and support about special educational needs and disability (SEND) for parent carers, children and young people (up to the age of 25). The service is free, confidential and impartial. We encourage partnership working with schools, colleges, early years providers, the Local Authority and other statutory and voluntary services, so that parent carers children and young people can be part of decision making. This session will be looking at Post 16 information and support.

Wednesday 12 October

9.30am to 10.15am: Portage what does it do?

Join members of the Portage team to give you information on their service and how families can access it.

10.30am to 11.15am: School Transport

Join us for a session on School Transport. This session will explain what school transport is and the eligibility around it in Somerset.

11.30am to 12.15am: Autism and communication team, what courses they run for parents

The Autism and communication team will be joining us to run a session on what information courses are available for parents in Somerset and how to access them.

12.30pm to 1.15pm: Kooth cancelled – but see February’s session instead

1.45pm to 2.30pm: Home finder service

This session will provide an overview of what HomeFinder Somerset is and how it works.

Thursday 13 October

9.30am to 10.15am: SENDIAS SEND Support workers

Somerset SENDIAS provides information, advice and support about special educational needs and disability (SEND) for parent carers, children and young people (up to the age of 25). This session will look at their SEND Support workers and how they can support families. There will also be a chance for parents to ask questions at the end of the session.

10am to 11.30am: Discussion Event

We want to hear from you! Join us for an open discussion about how things are for you living in Somerset with children who have additional needs.

11.30am to 12.15pm:SENDIAS Tribunals and Mediation

Somerset SENDIAS provides information, advice and support about special educational needs and disability (SEND) for parent carers, children and young people (up to the age of 25). The service is free, confidential and impartial. We encourage partnership working with schools, colleges, early years providers, the Local Authority and other statutory and voluntary services, so that parent carers children and young people can be part of decision making. This session will be looking at Tribunals and mediation in the EHCP process.

12.30pm to 1.15pm: Somerset Parent Carer forum Session – Preparing for meetings

Join the Somerset Parent Carer Forum for a session on how to prepare for meetings. This session will help parent carers navigate preparing for meetings.

1.45pm to 2.30pm: Children and young people’s Neurodevelopmental pathway update

A member of the Children and young people’s Neurodevelopment pathway Team will be talking about the pathway how to access this and also give updates on this service. There will be a chance to ask general questions after the presentation although we will not be able to answer individual questions in the group chat.

6pm to 7.30pm: Discussion Event

We want to hear from you! Join us for an open discussion about how things are for you living in Somerset with children who have additional needs.

Friday 14 October

9.30am to 10.15am: Valuing SEND in Somerset Impower

Join a member of the Impower team to talk about valuing SEND in Somerset.

10.30am to 11.15am: SEND Strategy update Vicky

Join us for an update on the Somerset SEND, This session you will have a chance to ask questions and share your views.

11.30am to 12.30pm: Graduated Response Tool

This session will be an introduction for parent carers to the new co-produced Somerset Graduated Response Tool which replaces The Core Standards.

1pm to 2.30pm: SEND Team, What is a coms meeting?

Collaborative Outcomes Meetings, or COMs will be explained within the session, in terms of how they fit into the Education, Health and Care needs assessment process, and what families should expect when they take part in one. This session will share insight into the rationale behind why COMs are used, and detail the purpose of a ‘COMs SEN Support Meeting’, which takes place following a decision not to issue an EHCP.

Saturday 15 October

10am to 4pm: ADHD Workshop, This session in  person or people can join online.
