The Somerset Sensory Processing Handbook has been co-produced to raise awareness on sensory processing and provides information in how to support children and young people (CYP) who experience difficulties with sensory processing. It is aimed at education settings, but this information can also be useful to all organisations supporting Children and Young People who have been identified as having sensory processing needs or differences as well as for parents and carers.
This guidance document provides up-to-date information on the nature of sensory processing differences and difficulties, and the impact they can have on the lives of children and young people. It provides information on a number of safe interventions for individual children and young people, and groups. There are also recommendations about the creation of appropriate learning environments for those experiencing these difficulties. This handbook provides helpful ideas and strategies that can be incorporated into a child or young person’s sensory plan if needed.
The Sensory Processing Handbook will be updated annually.
