“I am thrilled to be working in Somerset again and aim to lead and support the development of this new Early Years SEND Support Service with ambition, passion and integrity. I look forward to getting to know you and working together for the young children of Somerset.”

The Early Years SEND Support Service has brought together the Portage team, Early Years Area SENCO team and Inclusion Advisers to deliver an all year-round service supporting children and families, Early Years settings and childminders across Somerset.

Rebecca has worked in education for 30 years. She taught in Somerset in different educational settings including five primary schools, a Local Authority nursery and a Children’s Centre for over 20 years and is a qualified SENCO. She worked in North Somerset Council as an Area SENCO and the Lead Consultant for Inclusion (0-5 years) and interim Early Years and Childcare Service Lead. Rebecca ran her own Early Years and SEND consultancy business prior to joining Somerset County Council in the role of Early Years SEND Support Service Manager a few weeks ago. This included supporting the Local Government Association as a peer associate and challenge manager, as well as undertaking research for the Early Intervention Foundation.  Rebecca has recently worked with Bridgend Council in Wales on a project sponsored by the Welsh Government piloting a new approach to Early Childhood Education and Care.
