Welcome to this edition of SEND news!
I hope you all had a good summer holiday and the return to school or college has been smooth.
There has been lots of work taking place over the summer to improve Somerset’s SEND Local Offer. Following feedback from families and practitioners, a new website was launched in July. The new site includes an improved search function and a clearer structure to help you find the things you need. Work to improve the quality of the information on the site and additional topics are being added based on your feedback. If you would like to get involved, please contact the team by using the feedback link at the bottom of the page on Somerset’s SEND Local Offer at www.somerset.gov.uk/local-offer.
Somerset’s SEND Local Offer also has a Facebook page @LocalOfferSomerset and you can find lots of useful information and local events. In this week’s newsletter you will also find information on the upcoming Local Offer Live week and details of how to access this.
Thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s SEND Survey. This is now closed, and we will be sharing the result of this in a future edition of SEND news.
The last edition of SEND news highlighted the work to design a new SEND strategy for Somerset. We will be using the results of the SEND annual survey to help shape the strategy along with feedback from the engagement events taking place. I really want to encourage everyone to get involved in this, as the strategy needs to reflect your experiences and aspirations for our children and young people in Somerset.
If you are unable to attend an engagement, you can also contact the parent carer forum on 01458 259384 or at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will ensure your voice is included in this important piece of work.
I hope you enjoy this week’s SEND news and please get in touch if there is anything you would like to see included in future newsletters.
Ruth, CEO of Somerset Parent Carer Forum
